Sysmex Hematology Analyzer: XN, XP and What to Check

A neutral look at Sysmex’s haematology families — from compact clinic analysers to laboratory systems — and how to compare them fairly.

About Sysmex

Sysmex is a Japanese company headquartered in Kobe that specialises in in-vitro diagnostics, and haematology is its best-known field. Its analysers are widely used in hospital and private laboratories, and it also makes compact analysers for smaller sites. This page is a neutral buyer’s guide — it does not mean we stock Sysmex analysers.

Sysmex families in broad terms

XN-Series

Laboratory analysers that report a 5-part differential using fluorescence flow cytometry. They run as standalone units or as modules on automated lines; the XN-L models are aimed at smaller laboratories.

XP-Series (XP-100, XP-300)

Compact 3-part analysers that count and size cells by impedance. They suit clinics and small laboratories with modest daily volumes.

Older models

Earlier families such as the KX-21 and XS-Series still appear on the used market. Check whether reagents, parts and service are still available before buying one.

Buying a used analyser

What to check before buying a Sysmex analyser

  • Match the class to your workload: an XN-class analyser for laboratory volumes, a compact 3-part for a clinic.
  • Cost per reportable test at your volume, including daily start-up, shutdown and controls.
  • Reagent pack sizes and opened stability, so packs are used up before they expire.
  • Who supplies reagents and controls and who services the analyser in your state.
  • MDA registration numbers for the exact model and its reagents.
  • LIS connection and a sample comparison against your current lab.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Sysmex XP-100 a 5-part analyser?
No. The XP-100 is a compact 3-part analyser that sorts white cells into three groups by impedance. Sysmex’s 5-part differentials come from its XN-Series.
Is a Sysmex XN right for a GP clinic?
Usually not. XN analysers are built for laboratory volumes and workflows; most GP clinics are better served by a compact 3-part analyser with lower running costs.
Do you stock Sysmex analysers?
No — this guide is neutral and is not a stock list. Share your daily volume and requirements and we will say which analysers we can quote for you.
